Brown haired, brown eyed, dashing smile, OH MY! Oh course who else would I speak of except the elven heart-throb himself: Orlando Bloom. Born on January 13th, 1977, in Canterbury, Kent, England,  Orlando was named after the title character in Virgina Woolfe's "Orlando: A Biography." His father died when Orlando was only four and was raised from then on only by his mother. She was the one who influenced him and his sister Samantha to enter into the arts. At age 16, Orlando spent two seasons performing with the National Youth Theatre in London. From there he obtained a scholarship to  the British American Drama Academy. That led him to auditioned for a number of television and film roles, landing him small parts in the TV series "Casualty" and the movie "Wilde".

Three years of Guildhall School of Music and Drama were up next for Orlando. It was at Guildhall, in 1998,  that he fell three stories from a rooftop terrace and broke his back. Though doctors though he would be permanently paralyzed, Orlando walked out healthy as ever a few weeks later. But the accident didn't seem like anything new to him. "I'm rather accident-prone, I have to admit. I've broken my back, my ribs, my nose, both my legs, my arm, my wrist, a finger and a toe and cracked my skull three times," our beautiful klutz says. He even claims that is why he got his role in Black Hawk Down.

It was barely a couple weeks after graduating from Guildhall that Orlando was on a plane heading for his next movie. But this movie was to far surpass anything ever sent to the big screen. Orlando Bloom, who was still a student in what seemed like only moments before, was now flying half-way across the world to New Zealand where he would be transformed into Legolas for the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Originally, he had auditioned for the role of Faramir, who didn't make an appearance till The Two Towers, but it is safe to guess that he was happy with his role.

The Fellowship of the Ring, with Orlando Bloom as Legolas, hit the silver screen on December 19th, 2001, and almost overnight, Orlando had become recognizable as one of the most attractive guys on the planet. All over the internet, fan sites and message board threads popped up singing praises to both his looks and his acting ability. His image became inescapable.

The popularity boost couldn't have been better for Orlando. The same year as FOTR, he scored the part of Todd Blackburn in Black Hawk Down and Joe Byrne in Ned Kelly, which starred another teen heartthrob, Heath Ledger. Now Orlando Bloom is climbing the movie ladder with his new movie Pirates of the Carribean (starring Johnny Depp) in which he costars as the blacksmith apprentice Will Turner.

Look out Bloom fans! Orlando is soon to be appearing in The Calcium Kid and Return of the King this year and Troy and The Remains of the Piano in 2004. Orlando is the hottest rising star to burst out of Britain since Mike Myers. How far can he go? Who knows, but from this fan to everyone else: he's not going away quite yet.
