First off let me say this is no Shrek, this is no Monsters Inc., and this is no Toy Story; this doesn't even come close to Ice Age. This is entertaining, will be enjoyed by kids, and has a unique story line. Even though much of the time I looked at this movie as having a childish plot and very unrealistic characters, once in a while I began to wonder "What If???" Pretty soon, I began to see Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, the epic journey of a know-it-all sons love for his parents in the eyes of a kid, and began to enjoy it, that's why I'm giving it three buckets.

 

     The animation in this movie was very odd, but at the same time an artistry of uniqueness. The characters blowup big-head-small-body design had a cartoony flair that grew on me throughout the movie. I got into the imaginative story solely through the way the animation was done. The different characters' appearances really made the whole story believable. Nickelodeon needed a wacky set of characters to go along with such a farfetched story to make the whole feature moderately realistic.

 

     I loved Jimmy's little inventions, they were so funny, out there, and creative. My favorite was the ultra-burp soda, the corny, gross humor, was less crude than that of Scooby Doo, which made it very enjoyable. The odd ways they incorporated little Neutron's inventions with such hilarious comedy was wonderful, but at the same time sheer luck. I laughed at some of the jokes just out of the blew, the scriptwriters took a chance, some of them could've been misinterpreted, and taken as stupid gross humor. But, thankfully, the script worked very well, the tasteful jokes were very imaginative, I liked them.

 

     The only thing that I really didn't like was a section of the script near the end of the movie. It tended to drag longer than needed; the authors of the movie really needed to invent a new scene. The movie was only eighty-two minutes and it had useless material. New material would've been the best suggestion I could've made as far as the script was concerned.

 

     Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is a fun movie for the whole family. I would recommend waiting for it to come out on video before seeing it because its not worth a trip to the theatre. It has unique animation, and very deserving of it's one Oscar nomination, but doesn't shine like other children-intended masterpieces. See it, but don't expect anything huge out of it. It deserves to be watched.
