It was really weird how my
opinion dramatically changed on The Others
overnight. All of a sudden, after watching it a
second time I understood where all the other
critics were coming from, I noticed the
sentimental value of the film. Going into watching
this for the second time I thought it would be
torture all over again. The Others actually
raised my self esteem. Maybe it was just the
relaxing feeling of watching it in my own home, or
maybe it was the warmness of the movie. I actually
began to be frightened by The Others and
better understood the characters; it was a
complete turnaround.
I really like how director
Alejandro Amenábar posed the shots and camera
angles. The places he spotted the lenses view were
very unique and idealized. They brought an
interesting vision to the great screenplay in this
movie. The way everyone on the crew and cast
envisioned the different scenes, as well as the
changes was flat out amazing, it impressed me
beyond words.
Nicole Kidman put on her
best performance here, it was the greatest fit for
her, even better than Eyes Wide Shut. The
way she made herself so believable in the role was
incredible. She acted so snapped, so berserk, it's
exactly what they needed. She acted so fabulously
paranoid that it was purely divine. I still can't
believe how wonderful she was!
Now I did sense flaws in
this movie, don't get me wrong. One, the camera
did not show the living people, but the girl could
see them? What kind of way of thinking is that.
The real people can see the ghosts but only one
ghost can see the real people. This is just
straight up pulling peoples legs, and on top of
that it confuses people for no reason. This was
the greatest flaw in the film.
There are two noticeably
great things in the plot in this picture. The
intelligent twist to the end and the interesting
occasions in the dialogue. This was really a well
thought out script. If you didn't like this movie
the first time, try it again; you might just have
the same feeling as me. In revision, The Others
is a first-rate, creepy thriller.
